Everything is a part of an ongoing collection of reimagined broadsides I began developing several years ago entitled Effortful Processing. Each is what I call a closed loop creative ecosystem: all elements of the work——all images, mediums used, and words——are my own. I use mirrored images, as well as visual and rhetorical parallelisms, to experiment with meaning beyond sense while creating contrast and congruency.
Ren K. D. is a gender-agnostic artist and writer on the spectrum. Previously trained as a research psychologist, Ren has a Bachelor’s and Interdisciplinary Master’s in Cognitive Psychology, with emphases in social systems, conflict, and memory. Ren is currently a Creative Nonfiction MFA candidate at the University of California, Riverside, and has been awarded Dean’s Distinguished Fellow (2023-2024) and the Dorland Fellow (2024-2025). Her visual and written works deal with the legibility of identity: the dissonance between the existential and the embodied aspects of human life. Ess Pokornowski (she/they) lives in California and hates direct sunlight. Her essays and poetry explore how we haunt our own bodies and other personal and political issues at the intersection of trans, crip, queer life. She lives with her partner, their pets, and gnawing anxiety.
